Bridalplasty... too distrurbed to think of a clever title

E! (and I) have sunk to a new low: Bridalplasty. The new show, which I watched two (partial!) episodes of last weekend, hits the reality TV trifecta: extreme makeover, dream wedding and elimination voting.

Brides-to-be with lengthy plastic surgery wish lists (and body dysmorphic disorder) compete for the "perfect wedding," which apparently requires a new face and body. According to Eonline bios, contestants are hoping to win up to 15 surgical procedures, including some I never knew existed.

"Liposuction of flanks" is a popular one - according to this website, flanks are "located just under the bra line on the sides and back." I thought it was a kind of steak. Another body part that apparently needs the fat sucked out of it is the knee. Cheyanne here even specifies she would like "inner knee" lipo - I'm sure it was very painful for her, getting teased about her inner knees in grade school.

That's a picture of her before any surgery, by the way...

Has our cultural sanity plummeted that much in less than a year? Weren't we all horrified when Heidi Montag revealed she had 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day? I guess E! was more inspired than disturbed... to define "perfection" as this:

I must admit that even though I'm a self professed Reality TV junkie, I just couldn't bring myself to watch this. Although don't get me wrong, the premise seemed interesting, I just almost felt guilty for wanting to watch a show about girls who do not need to resort to surgical procedures for their self confidence and worth...but secretly I kind of want to see the befores and afters. I know I know. I'm crazy...Maybe I will "accidently" set my DVR to record it...that way I won't feel too guilty...I mean if it's on my DVR, I might as well watch, right? Good blog.

My rationalization was to "stumble" onto it while flipping channels - it's not my fault if I can't look away, like a train wreck...

I stumbled upon the show myself this weekend. First I heard about it on the radio and literally thought it was a "bit?" by the DJs. Sure enough, it's a real show designed to make every bride out there realize that a wedding without plastic surgery is a big mistake. What was I even thinking back in June? I enjoyed watching the bottom two weep about their dreams being shattered. Had they often dreamed about getting plastic surgery before getting married?

I watched the first 10 minutes of the first ep and was completely disturbed by the girls who thought the girl from Biggest Loser shouldn't have been allowed to be on the show! Hello!! If someone loses 100+ pounds, that is actually acceptable plastic surgery (in my eyes, and I know all). I do wonder what the end of the show will entail though, and of course when the bride is unveiled to the groom at the wedding after surgery!

Damn I missed it. Either it's not shown downunder, or I didn't read the tv guide close enough. Alas!

Everyone is talking about how crazy this show is. I have to check it out. It's definitely sad. Nice post.
